Airport Master Plan Updates

Fayetteville Regional Airport is currently updating the Airport Master Plan(PDF, 81MB) , a comprehensive planning process that helps guide the airport’s development over the coming years. The Master Plan serves as a detailed guide for the airport, to evaluate existing facilities, future aviation activity, and the overall passenger experience.

This update will assess the airport’s current infrastructure and operational appeal, while considering future growth and the evolving interest of the communities and stakeholders it serves. The planning process will help ensure the airport remains well-positioned to support economic development and continue providing reliable air transportation services throughout the Sandhills region.

As the project progresses, this page will provide updates on key milestones, planning efforts, and opportunities for public input. Fayetteville Regional Airport is committed to maintaining a transparent planning process and welcomes feedback from members of the traveling public throughout the Master Plan update.

FAY Hosts First Study Advisory Committee Meeting as Part of Master Plan Update

Fayetteville Regional Airport (FAY) held the first of four Study Advisory Committee meetings on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The focus of this meeting was to delve into the first topic within the Master Plan Update: The Inventory of Existing Conditions and Forecast Study Components.

“The Airport Master Plan allows us to review and envision a future of growth for FAY,” said Andrew LaGala, Airport Director. “Our utmost priority is the airport community within the Sandhills region. From partners to passengers, we want to ensure everyone has an opportunity to voice their feedback.”

This meeting allowed for the introduction of updates to be presented to partners. With attendance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), General Aviation members, and other airport stakeholders, the conversation around growth for FAY was the central focus. The current FAY Master Plan was produced in 2018, with FAA guidance recommending that airports update their Master Plan every 7–10 years. FAY is on schedule with this recommendation.
