Update to Shooting/Death Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified the subject shot this morning along Cain Road.

 

Cordell Spruill (B/M 40 years of age) of the 1000 block of Cain Road was pronounced deceased at the hospital. His next of kin has been notified.

 

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Shooting/Death Investigation

 

           

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Monday, June 29, 2020, at 6:19 am officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of Cain Road in reference to a reported break-in in progress.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed a resident of the apartment called 911 to advise her window was being broken and a suspect was trying to gain entry. Another resident, armed with a firearm, shot at the suspect.

 

As the suspect fled, the resident followed to the intersection of Cain Road and Rogers Drive where a physical disturbance lead to more gunshots. The suspect was shot multiple times. Officers arrived very quickly and summoned emergency medical assistance. The suspect was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

 

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
