North Street Drainage Improvement project addresses flooding
Published on March 18, 2025
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The city of Fayetteville is installing approximately 2,000 linear feet of new storm drains along North, Ingram, and Sewell Streets which began on Feb. 17 and is expected to be completed by mid-February 2026.
The goal of the North Street Drainage Improvements project is to address flooding issues in the northern part of the city. This project will alleviate the frequency, severity, and duration of flooding, improving both drainage and overall infrastructure resilience.
The improvement project is aimed at reducing localized yard, street, and structure flooding that has occurred during major storm events in the North Street area.
An initial site investigation confirmed that the existing storm drains in the area are inadequate, lacking the necessary capacity to meet the city’s current stormwater management requirements and are in poor condition.
Drivers should remain alert, use caution, and reduce speed while going through the work zone.
