The Fayetteville Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit offers free Business Security Surveys to businesses within the city limits of Fayetteville. The Business Security Survey provides an assessment of possible crime risks to your business and recommends steps for improvement.

The business concept is modeled after Neighborhood Watch/Community Watch and uses the neighbors looking out for neighbors concept to reduce crime. It creates a partnership between businesses, law enforcement, and other organizations that may represent business interests. This program unites businesses within close proximity of each other so they may alert others of suspicious activity/persons or crime trends in the Watch area. Business Watch has had great success in combating crime through communication between local business owners. Programs vary according to need. A Business Watch Guide is provided at the bottom of this page.

Community Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their communities. Community Watch is neighbors working with neighbors and the police to prevent crime. The Community Watch Group is based on the concept of people looking out for one another and to send a message to potential criminals that someone is watching. Neighborhood Watch, Block Watch, Town Watch, Apartment Watch, Crime Watch – no matter what it’s called, it is one of the most effective and least costly answers to crime. Watch groups are a foundation of community crime prevention. They can be a stepping stone to community revitalization.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) theories contend that law enforcement officers, architects, city planners, landscape designers, interior designers, and resident volunteers can create a climate of safety in a community right from the start. CPTED’s goal is to prevent crime by designing a physical environment that positively influences human behavior. The theory is based on four principles: natural access control, natural surveillance, territoriality, and maintenance. Crime Prevention Specialists conduct CPTED surveys as a courtesy to businesses and citizens within the city limits of Fayetteville.

Our Crime Prevention Specialists are constantly working to establish new partnerships with businesses within the city limits of Fayetteville. Partnerships between law enforcement, residents, and businesses make our communities safer places to live, work, and play. As such, our Crime Prevention Specialists offer robbery prevention surveys to businesses as a courtesy. Crime Prevention Specialists are also available to provide crime prevention presentations to employees of your business. Please provide a minimum of two week’s notice to request a crime prevention presentation.

The Fayetteville Police Department seeks assistance from local businesses and home owners to strengthen criminal investigations and create a safer community. Therefore, we are requesting businesses, including but not limited to churches, retail establishments, daycares, schools, industrial industries, etc., to partner with us.

We are also encouraging our residents to register their doorbell cameras and their security cameras.

Businesses that partner with the Fayetteville Police Department will have two options to participate:

1. Camera registry
2. Camera integration

At this time Residents will only have the option to register their cameras. They will not have the option to integrate at this time.

Camera Registry

Businesses registering their cameras inform us that cameras are at your location. Then, if we wish to view the video, in that case, the owner will receive an alert to share and/or we can come to your location. Businesses who partner with the FPD must register their cameras by visiting connectfayetteville.org, and follow the prompted instructions. Registration allows FPD only to know that you have cameras in the event crime occurs.

Camera Integration

The second option is to integrate business cameras with the police department’s Fusus Real-Time Intelligence Center, which will give the police department direct access to surveillance cameras to view live video. Sharing access to the live video will allow staff to instantly view the area if a crime occurs in the vicinity of the business. This access will assist responding officers in identifying vehicles and individuals committing the crime more quickly.
