Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation recognizes the need for life skills programming in addition to our traditional offerings. The following programs have been designed to enrich the lives of both FCPR youth participants and adults.

Programs

College Experience Field Trips  

Current participants in FCPR Youth Development programs are eligible for inclusion in College Experience Field Trips. Scheduled trips are FREE of charge and include college tours of regional schools, as well as, a day on the college campus. Trips are traditionally scheduled on days when Cumberland County Schools are not in session. Participants must have participated in an FCPR Youth Development Program in the past year, or be currently enrolled, to be eligible to attend. Call 910-433-1021 for more information. 

Junior Official Program

This 3-level program will focus on the following:

  • Level I will focus on Life Skills training involving decision-making, conflict resolution, team building, customer service and communication.
  • Level II will focus on athletic officiating philosophies, rule enforcements, exams, mechanics and film review. 
  • Level III will focus on the field/court practicum exercises with live scrimmages. 

Prospective officials must complete each level in order to advance to the next phase. Upon completion of all 3 levels, the graduate will be assigned to officiate youth games in the FCPR Program. Register at any recreation center. 
14-18 yrs; Free

Junior Scorekeeper Program

This 3-level program will focus on the following:

  • Level II will focus on game day operations, record keeping and rule enforcement. 
  • Level III will focus on the field/court practicum exercises with live scrimmages. 

Prospective scorekeepers must complete each level in order to advance to the next phase. Upon completion of all 3 levels, the graduate will be assigned to work youth games in the FCPR Program. Graduates completing a minimum of four hours of scorekeeping will be considered for hire the following season. Register at any recreation center.

Job Shadowing Session for Teens

Explore the Workforce: A Day in the Life
Are you curious about what it’s like to work in different careers? Join us for a hands-on Job Shadowing Session designed especially for teens! This exciting opportunity lets you spend time alongside professionals from a variety of fields like government, recreation, healthcare, business, the arts, and more. You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at what they do every day, ask questions, and gain real insight into potential future careers. Whether you already have a career in mind or are just beginning to explore your options, this experience is a great way to discover what path may be right for you. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

A Day On, Not a Day Off
Calling all teens! Join us as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a Day of Service made just for you. This isn’t just a day off - it’s your chance to step up, give back, and earn volunteer hours while making a real impact in your community. Whether you're passionate about helping others, need service hours for school, or want to be part of something meaningful, this is your  moment to lead by example - just like Dr. King did. You’ll team up with other teens to complete hands-on service projects that promote kindness, unity, and change. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and verified volunteer service hours to use for school, clubs or college applications. Teen Game Night Unplug & Play

Looking for something fun to do? Join us for Teen Game Night - an evening filled with laughter, friendly competition and classic board games! From Uno to Monopoly, Connect Four to Jenga, we’re bringing back the traditional games you know and love. Snacks will be provided, and prizes will be awarded throughout the night! Space is limited so call ahead to reserve your spot.
