Temporary road closures around historic Market House scheduled

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The historic Market House roundabout in Downtown Fayetteville will be temporarily closed to allow for the safe removal of scaffolding. The closures are scheduled to happen Oct. 6 – 10 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily.
The road closures will take place on each approach of the roundabout:
- Hay St. from Donaldson and Anderson St. to the Market House
- Green St. from Maiden Lane to the Market House
- Person St. from Otis Jones Parkway and Bow St. to the Market House
- Gilespie St. from Ottis Jones Parkway and Franklin St. to the Market House
Detour routes will be clearly marked, and drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage. This scaffolding removal is anticipated to begin on Oct. 6 and is part of the final stages of the first phase of improvements to the structure and will ensure the site remains accessible and safe for the public.
The temporary closure is necessary to allow for the safe placement of equipment and to maintain a secure work zone around the Market House during the scaffolding removal.
“Safety is our top priority as crews work to remove the scaffolding around this landmark,” said Fayetteville Spokesman Loren Bymer. “We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we complete this important step in repurposing the Market House.”
The City encourages motorists to allow extra travel time when driving downtown during the closure period. Pedestrian access to surrounding businesses and public spaces will remain open.
The clock replacement is scheduled to begin on Oct. 20 and will require the same road closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for that day.
