A Weapon Detected at Elementary School and Parent Arrested
(Fayetteville, NC) – On April 27, 2026, at approximately 7:53 a.m., the Fayetteville Police Department’s School Resource Officer (SRO) responded to 128 Hillview Avenue, Lucile Souders Elementary School, for a report of a juvenile in possession of a firearm.
The SRO and additional officers arrived on scene and assumed the investigation.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an unloaded firearm was discovered by staff after a student set off the magnetometer while entering the school. The student and their parents cooperated fully with law enforcement and school staff.
The mother of the student, Donreon McDuffie (Black female, 26 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C., was arrested and charged with Failing to Properly Store a Firearm. McDuffie was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $5,000.00 unsecured bond.
