CALEA Accreditation Renewal

(Fayetteville, NC) – As part of the City of Fayetteville Police Department’s ongoing commitment to public safety excellence, Interim Chief Christopher T. Joyce is pleased to announce an upcoming on-site assessment conducted by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®). This assessment is a key component of the Department’s four-year re-accreditation process. The assessors will be on-site from Monday, June 2, through Thursday, June 5, 2025.

During this visit, the CALEA assessors will conduct a comprehensive review of the Fayetteville Police Department’s policies and procedures, management practices, operations, and support services. The purpose of the assessment is to verify that the Department continues to meet CALEA’s rigorous set of 461 professional standards.

Re-accreditation is a demanding process that demonstrates a law enforcement agency’s ongoing dedication to professional excellence and continuous improvement. The Fayetteville Police Department has proudly maintained its accredited status since 1989.

Accreditation is a four-year cycle, during which the Department must maintain and submit electronic documentation each year to demonstrate ongoing compliance. The on-site assessment in the fourth year serves to validate this documentation through direct observation and interviews.

Community feedback is a vital part of the accreditation process. The public is invited to provide comments via the CALEA Public Comment Portal: http://cimrs2.calea.org/610.

This portal is intended to gather feedback on the Department’s compliance with CALEA standards, service delivery, community engagement, and overall performance. Comments may include commendations or concerns. While CALEA will not respond directly to submissions beyond an acknowledgment, all feedback will be considered in the context of the accreditation review.

Please note that the CALEA portal is not intended for submitting complaints or matters requiring investigation.

For more information about CALEA standards, visit the CALEA website: Law Enforcement – Standards Titles | CALEA®. The Fayetteville Police Department participates in the Advanced Level of CALEA Accreditation.
