Officer Involved Shooting Update

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – The Fayetteville Police Department has identified the suspect involved in the recent officer-involved shooting as Isiah Shaquil Nichols (Black male, 28 years old) of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

 

Nichols is charged with:

 

  • F- Assault LEO/PO with a Firearm (3 counts)
  • F- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

 

Nichols was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he continues to receive medical treatment.

 

In accordance with department policy, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has been contacted and will assume responsibility for the investigation. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal review.

Officer Involved Shooting

           

(Fayetteville, NC) – On March 7, 2025, at approximately 11:03pm, Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department performed a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling more than 100 mph in a 55-mph zone on the All American Freeway. The driver would come to a stop along a service road adjacent to Skibo Road near the Lake Valley Road intersection. Officers attempted to arrest the suspect for the driving violations at which time he resisted arrest and discharged a firearm in his possession. In response to the shot fired by the suspect, one officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the subject. Officers on scene rendered first aid until medical personnel arrived. The driver was transported to a local hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

 

As with any critical incident involving an officer, the State Bureau of Investigation has been contacted and will assume the investigation surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.  The officer involved will be placed on administrative leave pending an internal review.  This is an ongoing investigation, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
