Traffic Fatality

(Fayetteville, NC) – On October 29, 2025, at approximately 5:51 pm officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Gillespie Street at Southern Avenue that resulted in a fatality.

The preliminary investigation revealed a black 2014 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Trenton Wayne Thompson (White male, 22 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. was traveling south on Gillespie St. when a grey 2015 Chevy Equinox operated by Hector Elias-Burgos (Hispanic male, 43 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. attempted to make a left turn onto Southern Ave colliding with the motorcycle. The force of the impact from the motorcycle spun the Chevy Equinox around and into a red 2005 GMC Envoy operated by Larry Wayne Barber (White male, 65 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. that was stopped on Southern Ave., waiting to make a left turn onto Gillespie St. 

The motorcyclist, Trenton Thompson was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center by Emergency Medical Service personnel where he succumbed to his injuries. His next of kin has been notified.

The driver, of the Chevy Equinox, Hector Elias-Burgos, received minor injuries in the collision. 

The Chevy Equinox also had a passenger, Edwin Colon (Hispanic male, 35 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. The passenger, Edwin Colon, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with minor injuries. 

The driver of the stationary GMC Envoy, Larry Barber, was uninjured in the crash. 

All drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with investigators.

This is an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
