Update- Suspect Turns Self In Related to Fatal Vehicle Crash

(Fayetteville, NC) – On October 21, 2025, Destini Rhinada Genwright turned herself into the Cumberland County Detention Center. She was charged with Willful Speed Competition, Speeding, Careless and Reckless Driving and Insurance Violation. Genwright was released on a $10,000.00 unsecured bond. 

We thank family and/or friends for their assistance in coordinating this process. 

This remains an active investigation as the FPD’s Traffic Unit continues to analyze evidence associated with this fatal crash and additional information will be released if it becomes available.

Update-Charges Filed in Connection with Fatal Vehicle Crash

(Fayetteville, NC) – On October 21, 2025, Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit secured charges against persons in connection with the fatal vehicle collision that occurred on October 8, 2025, claiming the lives of three E.E. Smith High School students. 

As a result of the preliminary investigation and consultation with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, the following charges have been filed.

Dymond Nekiya Monroe (Black female, 21 years of age) of Fayetteville, NC has been charged with:

  • Involuntary Manslaughter (3 counts)
  • Willful Speed Competition
  • Speeding
  • Careless and Reckless Driving
  • Insurance Violation

Dymond Monroe remains hospitalized at a medical facility and the FPD’s Traffic Unit will coordinate with judicial officials as deemed appropriate.

In addition to the charges filed against Dymond Monroe, Officers with the FPD’s Traffic Unit were able to identify an additional vehicle traveling along Rosehill Road at the same time as the fatal crash.  That vehicle has been seized by the FPD’s Traffic Unit and was identified as a 2023 Dodge Charger.  The following charges have been secured against the driver of that vehicle.

Destini Rhinada Genwright (Black female, 19 years of age) of Fayetteville, NC has been charged with:

  • Willful Speed Competition
  • Speeding
  • Careless and Reckless Driving
  • Insurance Violation

Officers with the FPD’s Traffic Unit have been in contact with Destini Genwright and are encouraging her to turn herself into authorities.  We would encourage family and/or friends to assist in coordinating this process.

Update to Fatal Vehicle Crash

(Fayetteville, NC) - On October 8, 2025, at approximately 7:22 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to the 2700 block of Rosehill Road for a report of a single motor vehicle crash.

The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit’s preliminary investigation has determined that excessive speed appears to be the primary contributing factor of this fatal vehicle crash that claimed the lives of three students from E.E. Smith High School.

The driver, Dymond N. Monroe, remains under medical care in critical condition at a medical facility.

Officers with the FPD’s Traffic Unit are continuing to review all the evidence associated with this fatal vehicle crash. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Officer C. Lewis at (910) 818-1872.

Update to Single Vehicle Crash Results in Three Fatalities

(Fayetteville, NC) – On October 8, 2025, at approximately 7:22 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to the 2700 block of Rosehill Road for a report of a single motor vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a gray 2024 Honda Civic was traveling North on Rosehill Road. The vehicle ran off the road to the right and collided with a utility pole. The vehicle continued down the sidewalk and collided with a tree.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Dymond N. Monroe (Black female, 21 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. She was life-flighted to UNC Medical Center in Critical condition.

The passengers of the vehicle were identified as Jai’Hyon Lamont Elliot (Black male, 18 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. and two seventeen-year-old black male juveniles of Fayetteville, N.C.

The three passengers all succumbed to their injuries on scene. Their next of kin have been notified. All the passengers were students in the Cumberland County School System.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Single Vehicle Crash Results in Three Fatalities

(Fayetteville, NC) – On October 8, 2025, at approximately 7:22 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to the 2700 block of Rosehill Road for a report of a single motor vehicle crash.

Officers and Emergency Medical Personnel responded to the 2700 block of Rosehill Road located a single vehicle occupied by four individuals, that had run off the road and struck a telephone pole.

Three occupants succumbed to their injuries on scene and one occupant was air lifted to UNC Chapel Hill in critical condition.

Members of the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit are currently investigating the incident.

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
