Update to Homicide Investigation- Suspect Arrested

(Fayetteville, NC) – On January 19, 2026, Fayetteville police homicide detectives began investigating Tykese McFayden's fatal shooting along the 1400 block of Tangora Lane.

On January 27, 2026, homicide detectives charged and arrested Demell Windsor Lawrence (Black male, 24 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C., with First Degree Murder in the shooting death of McFayden. Lawrence is currently in custody of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office under no bond.

There is no additional information to provide.

 

Update to Homicide Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a shooting which occurred along the 1400 block of Tangora Lane on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 12:32 a.m., which resulted in a death.

The decedent has been identified as Tykese Aerian McFayden (Black male, 23 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. His next of kin has been notified.

The investigation has revealed an altercation occurred between individuals known to one another that resulted in the shooting death of Tykese McFayden.

This is an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a shooting which occurred along the 1400 block of Tangora Lane on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 12:32 a.m., which resulted in a death.

 

Homicide Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a shooting which occurred along the 1400 block of Tangora Lane on Monday, January 18, 2026, at 12:32 a.m., which resulted in a death.

Officers and Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to the 1400 block of Tangora Lane reference reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a black male outside of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased on scene. The identity of the decedent is currently being withheld pending next of kin notification.

On scene officers located a second black male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported by Emergency Medical Service personnel to a local hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injury.

All parties involved were on scene. This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

This is an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
