Update to Traffic Fatality
(Fayetteville, NC) – Investigators with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit have identified the persons and vehicles involved in the traffic crash which resulted in a fatality on Friday, January 2, 2026 on Cliffdale Road near Regency Drive.
The decedent has been identified as Dameion Anderson (Black male, 40 years of age). Anderson was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 2023 Jeep Gladiator, has been identified as Daniel Mafnas (Asian male, 57 years of age). Daniel Mafnas had a passenger in the vehicle he was operating, and she has been identified as Mercedes Mafnas (White female, 65 years of age). Daniel Mafnas and Mercedes Mafnas are currently listed in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation has revealed Anderson was involved in a separate vehicle crash in the parking lot of 6900 Cliffdale Road shortly before the fatal vehicle crash. Anderson fled the scene of the first crash and the vehicle he struck began following him. While on Cliffdale Road after passing Bunce Road, Anderson lost control in a curve. Anderson’s vehicle then entered the oncoming travel lanes and struck the vehicle being operated by Mafnas nearly head on.
The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to actively investigate this crash. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Traffic Fatality
(Fayetteville, NC) – Investigators with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash which occurred Friday, January 2, 2026 at approximately 12:44 pm, on Cliffdale Road near Regency Drive.
Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles involved in the collision. Three people were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment, where one person succumbed to their injuries.
Cliffdale Road is currently closed between Bunce Road and Pritchett Road while the Traffic Unit conducts an on-scene investigation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The roadway is expected to reopen by 4 p.m.
The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to actively investigate this crash. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
