Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is an impervious surface?

An impervious surface is any hard surface that water can’t soak into, like roofs, driveways, sidewalks, patios, and parking lots.

How do I know what tier I am in?

Will be updated by Byron soon.

Why are we doing a tiered system?

The tiered system is being used to make stormwater fees more accurate. It groups residential properties based on how much hard surface area they have (Roofs, driveways, sidewalks, patios, and parking lots), instead of everyone paying the same flat rate. To find out what tier you are in, please call the City of Fayetteville at (910) 433-1613 or (910) 433-1648.

Why now?

The change is happening after the City reviewed billing data and updated property measurements using more accurate mapping information.

What is stormwater and why does this matter?

Stormwater is rainwater that runs off roofs, roads, driveways, and other hard surfaces. It matters because too much runoff can cause flooding and pollution if it isn’t properly managed.

Who do I call?

You can contact the City of Fayetteville at (910) 433-1613 or (910) 433-1648 with questions about your stormwater bill.

What does the stormwater fee pay for?

Stormwater fees help fund drainage improvements, flood reduction efforts, maintenance of the stormwater system, and protection of local waterways.

Why do we even have a stormwater fee?

Stormwater fees help pay for the system that manages rainwater runoff. This includes keeping drains working, reducing flooding, and protecting streams and rivers in the community.
