The City of Fayetteville has updated its Stormwater Utility Fee structure to improve accuracy and fairness. Residential properties are now billed using a tiered system based on ranges of impervious surface area, so individual bills may change depending on where a property falls within the new tiers. Impervious surface area refers to any land surface that does not allow water to infiltrate into the soil, causing rainwater to run off rather than soak in.
Commercial and other non-residential properties continue to be billed based on impervious area, however, updated mapping data may have refined those measurements, which could result in different fee amounts compared to prior years even if no site changes occurred. These updates ensure stormwater costs are more closely aligned with each property’s contribution to runoff and system demand.
The tiered system is being used to make stormwater fees more accurate. It groups residential properties based on how much hard surface area they have (roofs, driveways, sidewalks, patios, and parking lots), instead of everyone paying the same flat rate. To find out what tier you are in, please call the City of Fayetteville at (910) 433-1613 or (910) 433-1648.
