FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Fayetteville City Council held a special meeting Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. During the meeting, staff presented an overview of the City’s data center research and the regulatory framework under consideration, along with feedback from residents and community members who participated in the listening sessions held at several locations on Sept. 30.

Attorney Nick Tosco of Poyner Spruill presented a legal review and recommendations on the proposed data center regulations for the Unified Development Ordinance text amendments. Atty. Tosco specializes in local government law, land use law, and complex civil litigation.

Council approved scheduling a public hearing on a proposed data center moratorium ordinance and directed staff to prepare the draft ordinance for consideration before the public hearing.

Council also directed staff, with assistance from legal counsel, to update the Unified Development Ordinance with the proposed data center regulation recommendations presented during the meeting. Council will provide the updated text amendments to Council and the general public for the Oct. 26 regular meeting.

Presentations from the meeting are available at FayettevilleNC.gov/UDOamendments, along with all prior meeting materials and presentations related to data centers.
