City shares best practices for large limbs collection
Published on May 21, 2026
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.– The City of Fayetteville’s Solid Waste Division encourages residents to properly set out large limb waste to ensure efficient collection and to keep Fayetteville clean.
Large limb waste includes tree trimmings, large shrubbery, and large limbs. Residents must ensure large limbs, set out for collection, are no longer than five feet and no more than six inches in diameter. Crews will collect up to 10 cubic yards in piles no more than three feet high.
Dirt piles, stumps, or root balls placed in a large limb pile will not be collected.
It is important to separate large limb piles from all other waste. Mixing plastics, food scraps, construction debris, loose trash, or bagged garbage with large limb piles can delay collection and cause contamination.
Residents are encouraged to follow the guidelines below to ensure timely and efficient collection for large limbs:
- Place large limb waste four feet from the curb, away from all obstructions, by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
- Large limbs can be up to five feet long, six inches in diameter and in a pile of up to 10 cubic yards, no more than three feet high.
- Do not mix trash, recyclables, construction materials, or any other waste with large limb waste.
- Do not place dirt piles, stumps, or root balls in large limb piles, as they will not be collected.
Large limb waste is collected during A Week.
If large limb pile exceeds 10 cubic yards, residents can pay and schedule a collection by using the FayFixIt App, calling 910-433-1FAY(1329) or by visiting 455 Grove Street.
Yard Waste Collection
Yard waste collection is a separate service from large limb collection provided by Solid Waste. Yard waste is collected weekly and consists of grass, weeds, leaves, tree trimmings, plants, shrubbery, prunings, limbs and other materials generated in the maintenance of yards and gardens.
