Ribbon cutting for renovated tennis & pickleball courts at Tokay Park

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The City of Fayetteville invites the community to celebrate the newly renovated courts at Tokay Park during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. The ribbon cutting is open to the public and will take place at Tokay Park, located at 328 Hamilton Street. 

The project replaced the park’s six aging tennis courts with three tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts, giving residents more opportunities to enjoy both sports. The former courts had reached the end of their useful life and experienced extensive cracking, poor drainage, and worn surfaces. 

The $744,382 project was made possible through Community Development Block Grant funds. The City’s Economic and Community Development Department partnered with Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation to use the available funding to address the condition of the courts and make an important investment in the surrounding neighborhood. 

Community Development Block Grant funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents and address community needs.  

The renovation is part of the City’s continued investment in tennis and pickleball facilities across Fayetteville. The City recently opened the Courts at Glenville Lake, which features 11 tennis courts, including a championship court, and four pickleball courts. 

These investments are also helping Fayetteville attract competitive sporting events. The City has been selected to co-host the USTA North Carolina Singles State Championships Oct 1 – 4, 2026. Matches will be played at eight tennis facilities across Cumberland County, including the Courts at Glenville Lake. 

Residents are encouraged to bring their tennis and pickleball gear and enjoy the renovated courts following the ceremony.
