Denim Day Luncheon set for April 29

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations department is hosting their annual Denim Day Luncheon on April 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden, 536 N. Eastern Boulevard. Denim Day is a day to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence.
This year’s luncheon will feature a moderated panel of professionals who will walk attendees through the process that follows a sexual assault, from initial reporting to medical care, victim advocacy and legal considerations. Panelists will include representatives from Special Victims Unit (SVU), a victim advocate, a forensic medical professional and an attorney.
“Denim Day is a reminder that using your voice matters,” said Human Relations Director Yamile Nazar. “Whether it’s speaking up, supporting survivors, or challenging harmful attitudes, we all have a role in standing together and making it clear there is never a reason or excuse for sexual violence.”
Community members and leaders are asked to wear denim as a visible statement in support and commemoration of survivors/victims of sexual violence.
This luncheon is a free event.
Those interested in attending the luncheon must RSVP by April 16 at FayettevilleNC.gov/HumanRelations.
