FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville Fire Department (FFD) is encouraging residents to test smoke alarms and change the batteries when turning back the clock an hour Sunday, Nov. 2, marking the end of daylight savings time.

“Nearly 60% of home fire deaths occur in homes without functioning smoke alarms" Fire Chief Kevin Dove stated. "Early alerting is key to surviving a fire in your home and minimizing damage.”

FFD will install smoke alarms with the most up-to-date technology in the home of residents at no cost. Residents can make a request for a home safety survey and free smoke alarm by visiting Fayettevillenc.gov/Fire.
