City Council sworn into office; Thompson to serve as mayor pro tem

Fayetteville, N.C. - Council member Derrick Thompson was recently appointed to serve as mayor pro tem during the meeting called after the Inauguration Ceremony on Dec. 1.
With a 6-4 vote, Council member Thompson will perform mayoral duties in the potential absence of the mayor. Those in opposition were Council members Shaun McMillan, Antonio Jones, Lynne Greene, and Deno Hondros.
He will hold this position as mayor pro tem during his two-year term on the city council.
Newly elected and reelected members took their oath of offices during the inauguration ceremony at the J.W. Seabrook Auditorium at Fayetteville State University.
The following elected officials took their oath of offices:
Mayor - Mitch Colvin
District 1 – Councilman Stephon Ferguson
District 2 - Councilman Malik Davis
District 3 - Councilman Antonio Jones
District 4 - Councilman D.J. Haire
District 5 - Councilwoman Lynne Greene
District 6 - Councilman Derrick Thompson
District 7 - Councilwoman Brenda McNair
District 8 - Councilman Shaun McMillan
District 9 - Councilman Deno Hondros
The mayor and city council members will serve a term of two-years.
