FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The city of Fayetteville’s Solid Waste Division is launching a new educational campaign, Recycling Right: Fayetteville’s Guide to Smarter Recycling to help residents better understand what belongs in their recycling carts – and what doesn’t.

The initiative focuses on reducing contamination in recycling loads and reminding residents that small changes at home make a big difference in keeping Fayetteville clean, sustainable and safe.

“When residents recycle correctly, it saves resources, keeps collection costs down and protects the environment we all share,” said Daniel Edwards, Assistant Director of Public Services. “By putting waste in its place and recycling right, you’re helping Fayetteville thrive.”

The campaign will roll out across social media, FayTV, city facilities and neighborhoods, with a focus on clear, visual education about recyclable and non-recyclable materials. Residents can look for the hashtag #RecycleRightFAY and follow along for weekly “What’s In, What’s Out?” posts that spotlight common recycling mistakes.

As part of the effort, the City will also introduce a "Collections Gone Wrong” mini-series to help residents learn how to manage trash, recycling, yard waste, bulky and large limb collection. For more information or to view a list of recyclable items, visit FayettevilleNC.gov/Recycling.
