Solid Waste shares best practices for yard waste collections

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.– The city of Fayetteville’s Solid Waste Division encourages residents to properly separate different types of waste to ensure efficient collection and to keep Fayetteville clean.
Residents must keep yard waste, such as grass clippings, leaves, branches, and other natural debris, separate from household trash, recycling, or any other waste materials. Mixing plastics, food scraps, construction debris, or bagged garbage with yard waste can delay collection and cause contamination.
“Keeping yard waste clean and separate helps our crews collect more efficiently and also supports our community’s commitment to sustainability,” said Daniel Edwards, Assistant Director of Public Services.
Important guidelines to increase efficiency of yard waste disposal:
- Place yard waste in city-provided 96-gallon green or brown rollout carts, durable plastic bags, 32-gallon personal cans with lids, or tied bundles (up to 3 feet long and 3 inches in diameter), all weighing less than 50 pounds.
- Do not mix trash, recyclables, construction materials, or any other waste with yard waste.
- Do not place yard waste in blue rollout carts, as they are for recycling only. Place yard waste out 4 feet from the curb and all other waste materials, by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
“Residents can help reduce contamination and ensure Fayetteville continues to be a place we are proud to call home by simply following the recommended guidelines,” Edwards added.
