Center Programs

Bid Whist

Bid Whist is a partnership, trick-taking variant of the classic card game Whist. As indicated by the name, Bid Whist adds a bidding element to the game that is not present in classic Whist. Please note that due to programming, Bid Whist will be cancelled on Fri., Dec. 12.

Bingo

Bingo helps seniors to stay engaged while maintaining focus and mental acuity. Bingo gives seniors a chance to socialize. Participants pay a quarter per game. Winnings go to winning participant of each game.  Participation limited to first 40 participants. Please note that due to programming, Bingo will be cancelled on the following dates:

Charcuterie Board Creation

Put your creative apron on and join us for a Charcuterie board class. Let's discover the art of charcuterie together.  In this class you will learn how to create and arrange your favorite meats, cheeses, crackers, fruit, vegetables, chocolates, etc.  Your charcuterie board will be the talk of your next family, office, church, and friendship gathering. You may bring your own board no larger than 8 inches. Pre-registration is required.

Coffee, Books and More Book Club

This group will meet to discuss a book or books that they have read and express their opinions, likes, and dislikes. Dominoes

Dominoes for seniors is a great way to help stimulate one's brain activities, since it requires focus, attention, concentration, and the use of strategy techniques. Dominoes is a family of tile-based games played with gaming pieces, commonly known as dominoes. Each domino is a rectangular tile with a line dividing its face into two square ends.

Hand Quilt 'N Patch

Hand quilting is a traditional method of sewing the layers of a quilt together by hand using a needle and thread. Items needed for class include:
-Sewing Machine
-Cutting Mat (No smaller than 24")
-45 mm Rotary Cutter
-2 1/4 yard of Quilting Fabric (100 % cotton and your choice of colors) or 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" squares

Know Your Sewing Machine

Learn the basic 101 of your sewing machine. Cleaning and care, parts, threading, and most of all basic sewing. Pre-registration is required. There will be a maximum of 12 participants only. 
Requirements for the class include:
-Must bring your own working machine
-Bring two thread colors
-Bring your machine manual (physical or downloaded on your phone)
-Bring your tools (snippers, scissors, two empty bobbins, pressure foot, all attachments, paper/writing instrument)

Lunch with a Medicare Advisor 

Have lunch with a local Medicare Specialist and find the answers to all your health care plan benefits. Pre-registration is required.

Mahjong

Similar to a game of rummy, Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and luck. The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols. Requires four players. In most variations, each player begins by receiving 13 tiles. Individuals must provide their own cards.

Maribel's Hem and Stitch

Due to class size, available space, and different levels of sewing knowledge, it can be challenging to meet the needs of everyone effectively. To alleviate some of these issues, participants are required to pre-register for Maribel’s Hem & Stitch.  You will be registering for the entire month. There will be a maximum of 12 participants only. No walk-ins will be accepted. 
Requirements for the class include:
-Intermediate level of sewing knowledge (Completion of Know Your Sewing Machine 101 Class)
-Must bring your own machine
-Bring all supplies needed to complete class projects

Matter of Balance

This award winning program is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falls. Classes help participants learn to: view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, change their environment to reduce risk factors, and promote exercise to increase strength and balance. Classes are designed to benefit community-dwelling older adults who: are concerned about falls, have sustained a fall in the past, restrict activities because of concerns about falling, are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength, are age 60 or older, ambulatory and able to problem-solve. Pre-registration is required and participants must commit to attending at least 6 of the 8 class sessions.

Paint and Sip

During this two-hour art and craft experience, each attendee will receive a pre-sketched themed canvas template and all supplies needed to complete a unique piece of art. Pinochle

Join others in this trick-taking, ace-ten card game, typically for two to four players and played with a 48-card deck. It is derived from the card game bezique; players score points by trick-taking and by forming combinations of characters into melds.

Pokeno

This is a combination of Bingo and Poker sure to engage your mind and great for socialization. The game has five pots and is played with a deck of cards. Each player pays five cents for each pot. Nickels preferred. Maximum of 12 players.

Spades

Spades is a trick-taking, 4 player card game of strategy and luck. Spades used a standard 52 card deck with Aces high, 2's low, and Spades trumping all. The objective is to take the number of tricks that were bid before play of the hand began. Spades will help improve your memory, sharpen your mind while you build new relationships and the opportunity to socialize with others.

National Walking Day

Seniors, come take a walk in the park and join the staff of the Bill Crisp Senior Center in honor of National Walking Day. National Walking Day is exactly as it sounds — a day to celebrate the easiest way to be the healthiest version of you. Walking for thirty to sixty minutes per day may sound like it isn’t much, but studies have shown it can drastically help prevent ailments, increase blood flow to your brain and improve your mood! Let’s see how many miles we can walk smiling together this year! Snacks and water provided but you may bring your own. We will walk the trails of Lake Rim Park. Participants will meet at Bill Crisp Senior Center to sign in.

Wanda’s Love, Regifting Mobility

Attention Seniors! Do you have mobility equipment that is still in good condition that you are looking to donate to a worthy cause? Join us in June as we will be collecting walkers, canes, wheelchairs, transfer chairs, and other mobility aides. Items can be dropped off at the center any time during normal operating hours June 1-30.

Disaster Preparedness Workshop

Join us for a FREE class to learn how to prepare for a disaster. Participants will learn how to create an emergency preparedness kit and stay safe during a disaster. Hosted by Mid-Carolina Regional Council and Bill Crisp Senior Center. Light refreshments and vendors. Pre-registration required.

Ballroom Dancing

Ballroom dance is a partnered dance form performed to music with dancers moving to a prescribed set of steps and rhythms.

Cardio Drumming

Cardio drumming is a dynamic cardiovascular workout that combines drumming, rhythm, and music. Participants typically use drumsticks to hit an exercise ball placed on a bucket, following the rhythm of the music. The rhythm will definitely get you with this one. Come out and try this awesome new cardio workout guaranteed to get your heart pounding to the beat! Class is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Chair Aerobics, Line Dance and Stretch Class

Guidelines recommend 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. Join us for two days a week for moderate exercise and meet new friends Monday sessions of this ever-popular class include 30 minutes of line dance and 30 minutes of chair aerobics. Wednesday include 30 minutes of full-body stretching and 30 minutes of chair aerobics. Pre-registration is required.

Chair Fitness Frenzy

Chair Fitness Frenzy incorporates strength training, cardio, flexibility and balance training that is suitable for all level of fitness, mobility and injuries. Gentle Yoga

Carve out some time on the mat for this relaxing gentle yoga. Yoga can improve your flexibility, concentration and strength, relieves stress, joint strain and cultivates a clear mind and a strong body. Bring your own mat. Kettlebell Strength Class

Get all of the S’s! in a fun and nifty workout that will call you to come back for the next time. So, come gather what you have and let’s get some strength, stamina, stability, and sturdiness all the way to your core.

Line Dance With Renita

Join the fun in line dancing. This class is designed for those who are new to line dancing. It is a great form of exercise for the seniors to improve strength and muscle function, improves memory, increase balance and flexibility as well as improve cardiovascular and heart health. We will cover basic steps.

Sound Bath

A sound bath is a full-body meditative experience where people lie down and listen to resonant sounds. Benefits include deep relaxation, anxiety relief, balance of energy centers, and stimulation of the immune system. Pre-registration required. Please bring your own yoga mat.

Water Works

Come workout in the pool to stretch and strengthen your muscles gently. We will be using exercises to improve strength, mobility, flexibility, and balance. Use the resistance of the water to improve your overall health, all while having fun! Class is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Zumba for Seniors

Zumba for seniors is a lower-intensity version of the typical Zumba class and offers easier-to-follow moves that focus on low joint impact, making it safer for active older adults to practice. This class provides a more suitable option for older adults seeking alternative means of reaching their exercise goals.

Aquatic Center

The facility features a three-lane warm water pool with a maximum depth of 4 feet and a zero-level entrance.

  • Please bring your own towel to use while working out.
  • There is not a lifeguard on duty in or around the pool.
  • Participants acknowledge that they should not swim alone and therefore are highly encouraged to utilize a buddy system at all times.

Treadmills, stationary bikes, recumbent bikes, elliptical, lower body and upper body Nautilus machines, abdominal machine, resistance bands, exercise balls and exercise mats.
