Buddy Sports

The purpose of Buddy Sports is to give children with disabilities the chance to learn the basics of each individual sport, to promote skill development, cooperation and the making of new friends. The primary emphasis while the game is being taught is for the children to have fun, get exercise and become a part of the team. The program utilizes the “buddy system”: children with physical and mental disabilities are paired, if necessary, with a non-disabled buddy from our group of volunteers. All players will get a "buddy" to assist them as needed, allowing the player as much independence as preferred. A birth certificate and the fee are required at the time of registration. Participants may register at any FCPR recreation center. The buddies are volunteers from local organizations, school athletic teams, service groups, friends and family of athletes. Volunteers are always needed! Call 910-433-1000 for more information.
