DJ Camp

This camp is specifically designed to teach you the basics of using DJ equipment, mixing and how to create stellar performances.

Volleyball Clinic (Bump, Set, Spike)

Pickle Ball

Board Game Night

One of the most pleasurable ways to strengthen relationships with family and friends, a board game night is a very relaxing and fun way to spend an evening.

Splash Day

Beat the summer heat at our annual Splash Day! This fun-filled event is the perfect way for families and friends to cool off and enjoy an afternoon of water-themed excitement. Guests can splash around on the splash pad, race down water slides, and dance to music while soaking up the summer vibes. All ages are welcome, so bring your swimsuits, towels, and sunscreen for a day of refreshing fun.

Book Nook

Thanks to donations, we have several bookshelves filled with many different genres of good book titles for you to choose from. Grab a book, have a seat, and drift away. We also have a set of encyclopedias. Books may be borrowed with approval through the office.

Jigsaw and Mind Puzzles

You can always find a pretty, 1,000-piece puzzle waiting to be finished by anyone who wants to sit and use their talent by trying to get it put together. Just stop by, sit a spell, and see how many pieces you can get to fit. Jigsaw puzzles change when they are finished and we put out a new and challenging one. We also have a different weekly brain teaser, tricky riddle, or a difficult crossword or wordsearch that you can turn into the office to see how many solved the brain teaser or completed the crossword or word search.

BINGO

Every Tuesday and Thursday we play BINGO! The $2 entry gets you four cards, and then each card after that is $.50 cents per card with a maximum allowed of 14. We play regular BINGO games, SPECIAL games (such as postage stamp or letters of the alphabet), and there is always a FREE lucky number drawn before the first game kicks off. Last game of the day is a COVER-ALL worth up to $10, depending on the number of players. Intermission is halfway through, and we always enjoy a light snack together. Please bring your own beverage (with a lid) if you would like. All players are expected to follow the rules set forth by the Caller when playing. We call slowly and loudly for anyone with trouble hearing, and our cards have sliding windows so there is no need for any daubers. SUPER TUESDAYS offer SPECIALS for an additional $1. Cards cannot be purchased any earlier that 30 minutes prior to game starting.

POKENO

This traditional mix of KENO and POKER, using nickels to play. If you don't know the game, it is easy to learn and so much fun. Pick your card, place your nickel in each of the center flight of winning pots, and the dealer calls a card from a standard deck of 52. If you have that card on your board, place your chip. Be the first to get one of the POKENO combinations and you win the pot for that play. House rules are listed at the Center. No POKENO on the second Monday of each month due to the club meetings.

SPADES

You will almost always find a team or two at the table playing SPADES. Stop in and secure your place in a game. If we have more than one team, we will play 'ride-or-fly', where once one game is finished, the winners get up and the waiting players take their turn. Games go to 300 for the win. You can find someone playing most times of the day.

Chess

We have a traditional chess board that is available for anyone who is interested in stopping in and playing one of the most popular games in the world. Bring your opponent with you to guarantee you have someone to play. If you would be interested in starting a chess club at the center, please speak to a staff member.

Billiards

We offer an automatic return billiards table with sticks and chalk. Open to all members, and at no charge. Feel free to bring your own stick if you prefer. There is always someone looking to shoot a game or two. *Table may not be available during special events or meetings. Check the calendar for any changes to times.

Bible Study/Fellowship 

Do you want to set aside an hour each week for fellowship? Stop in for a round table, casual atmosphere bible study and group discussions. All members welcome.

Sewing Room

We have a sewing room with two 8 ft. worktables, an ironing board, and several cutting boards available to use. You will find a few quilters, doll and dog clothing members, stamping or scrapbook members and just some sewers in the room at any given time. There might be a knitter or crocheter back there, too. Are you looking for a few pointers or just want to sit and talk with people who share the same passion for creating items from scratch? We also offer over 300 vintage sewing patterns from the 1980's and 90's, as well as idea books and old catalogs that you can sign out to use. You must provide your own materials and machine. We do have two machines that are available for public use, but they are on a first come first serve basis. If there is a wait, time will be limited to one hour per person in the order you arrive.

Board Games

Mountains and mountains of classic board games are available. Grab some friends for a friendly game of Scrabble, Dominoes, Monopoly, Boggle, Uno, Tapple, Skip-bo, Rummikub, or Chess. Designated quiet areas are available to play. Games can be used at any time. Just check them out in the office.

Computer Lab

Our computer lab is available for public use by participants. *Computers may not be available if there is a computer class being taught. Staff may be able to assist with questions, based on availability, and you must sign in to receive a password for log on. Free public Wi-Fi is available for your personal devices.

Free Diabetic Health Clinic 

A nurse from Better Health of Cumberland County stops by and assists with any and all things regarding diabetes. You can opt to have a finger stick, have your vitals and/or your weight checked, and discuss diabetic topics. This is a 10 minute one on one with the nurse, in a private setting, and your results are charted so they can monitor your progress each month. This is also a great way to learn about any new local resources that may be available to you to help with your diabetes as well as gain nutrition and exercise information. Please note that this should not replace any visits with your Primary Care Physician and should be used only as a free, additional resource. The last sign-in accepted is at 11:15 am. Please call ahead to verify that the clinic is being held as weather, illness, or other scenarios may affect the scheduled day and time.

Coloring

Grab the crayons or colored pencils, a free printed coloring sheet, and color. Coloring can be done in any quiet space you can find. Or bring your own materials and work on any project you have going and visit with the others who may be coloring, too. The center puts out a few new and fun coloring sheets every Thursday for you to grab.

Walking

The weather is fine for getting out and walking on our 1/4-mile paved walking trail just outside our doors. Grab a friend or go solo. It's a great way to clear your mind and get your daily steps in. During the colder months, walking indoors in the gymnasium is also an option from 9 am-12 noon. You do need to sign in at both office areas, be a registered member with an updated registration on file and have the proper rubber soled walking shoes on to use the gym when you come inside to walk.

Special Events

Quarterly Birthday Potluck

We celebrate our participants birthdays with a potluck lunch and some fun trivia games. A Medicare representative will also be helping serve the lunch if you have any questions. Members with birthdays in April, May and June will be recognized before we eat. Sign up is required no later than on week prior to the day of the party. If you bring a dessert, please make sure it is ready to be served and in a disposable container.

Alzheimer's Association Workshop Series

friends at the National Alzheimer's Association will be offering a series of bi-monthly workshops. Do you have a loved one or friend that has Alzheimer's or Dementia, or you want to learn what to look for, this is the place to join in. All workshops are free with a different topic being covered each month. Walk-ins welcome.

Crafts

We offer several super easy craft classes for you to enjoy. The goal is for you to make something you can take home and teach your grandchildren. All supplies are provided, and class is limited to 9 participants per class. SIGN UP must be done in person.  All classes are from 10-11 am unless otherwise noted.

Bell of Hearts Talk & Walk

The founder of the non-profit, Bell of Hearts, will join us to discuss many types of heart healthy topics. As a heart transplant recipient himself, who faced many mis-diagnosis over a span of years, and being younger than the average transplant recipient, he is driven to bring accurate and up to date information to us on how to prevent heart disease, what signs to watch for, when is it time to see a doctor and what to speak to them about, and lastly to remind us that it is never too late to start taking care of your heart. After the workshop, he likes to take you for a quick walk to get your heart pumping.

'Junk in the Trunk' Community Sale at Mendoza Park

Do you have items you need to get rid of? Join us at our newly beautified park, Mendoza Park. This is a great way to make a few dollars by selling your junk from your trunk. Your entry fee gets you a parking spot with 20 feet straight out from your trunk or the bed of your truck. (you may use a designated area on the side of your vehicle that will be determined when you set up) This is a rain or shine event, so bring canopies or tarps. You will not be able to anchor into the pavement, so bring something to hold them down. There will be no dumpsters or trash available for anything you don't sell. If you brought it, it must go home with you. Set up starts at 6:30 a.m. and it will open to the public at 8 am. There is a set of guidelines that you will be given when you register. Register in person, no later than May 21.

Bring a friend out to browse, ask questions, and meet a Medicare Representative that is local to the area. This is for questions and answers, not to recruit for sign up. 5th Friday Spades

Whenever there are five Fridays, we host an informal SPADES tournament. No money is involved, just bragging rights. Sign you and a partner up. Teams of two will be chosen by a lottery to see what teams play against each other to start. Minimum of two tables playing at one time. Games play to 300 points or 45 minutes, whichever comes first. Single elimination. Winners take home bragging rights. You must sign up with a partner. If someone is without a partner, they may partner up with a player from the first losing team, if that player is willing. New decks of cards will be used, and a scorekeeper will keep score. Bring your own drink and snacks.

NC Legal Aid-Emergency Preparedness for Legal Documents

Emergency Preparedness isn't just flashlights, batteries, and phone chargers. It's also about having your legal documents protected such as birth and death certificates, proof of insurance, mortgages, car notes, etc. Legal Aid of NC will be discussing what documents you should have ready, and protected, for natural disasters or man-made, life changing incidents such as a fire. This brief workshop will touch on this important, and often overlooked, topic. Find out if you are prepared. Free session, walk-ins welcome.

National Hot Dog Day/Dog Days of Summer

Once a year we get to celebrate hotdogs. How cool is that? Grab a hotdog, bag of chips, and a drink on us. You will need to sign up in person. Sign up runs from June 26-July 9th. Everyone who signed up will get a ticket that you turn in for your plate. You may bring a dessert to share if you would like, we ask that you write it down when you sign up. There will be no take outs. One ticket per person.  Music, hot dogs, and hanging out with friends. POKENO will be held at 1:15 pm (instead of 11:45) on July 15th.

Over 80 Luncheon

We all get to come out and celebrate our members who are in their 80's. This is a great way share how blessed they are and let them know what an inspiration they are to all of us. We will have a light lunch, give each member the opportunity to talk about their lives and give testimony, as well as allow us to ask them to share their secrets for a long life. Lunch and dessert will be provided, but YOU MUST SIGN UP. There will be NO exceptions. Sign up in person between June 15 and July 10 to receive a ticket at the door to attend.
