Accidental Shooting Turned Homicide Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – On September 19, 2025, at approximately 10:06 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to the 1700 block of Veanna Drive for reports of an accidental shooting.

Officers and Emergency Medical Service personnel arrived on scene where they located an adult male inside of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injury.

 

The victim has been identified as Kwamee Dawson (black male, 32 years of age) of Fayetteville, NC.  His next-of-kin has been notified.

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed a family disturbance occurred inside of the residence resulting in the victim being shot.

Doveon Wright (black male, 26 years of age) of Fayetteville, NC was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. Wright is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond.
