Pedestrian Fatality
(Fayetteville, NC) – On May 9, 2026, at approximately 2:58 a.m. officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the area of Raeford Road near Greenleaf Drive for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
Officers and Emergency Medical Service personnel arrived on scene located the pedestrian and EMS transported the pedestrian to a local hospital for treatment to their injuries.
The Fayetteville Police Department's Traffic Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian identified as Rheannon Denise Maurer (White female, 40 years of age) of Fayetteville, N.C. ran into the roadway and the into path of a 2013 Hyundai operated by Osamah Al Hajri (White male, 27 years of age) of Raeford, NC.
The Hyundai attempted to avoid Rheannon Maurer and was struck by a 2002 Infinity operated by Braxton Dunlap, (Black male, 25 years of age) of Raeford, N.C. as a result. Both vehicles and drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation.
On May 12, 2026, detectives were advised Rheannon Denise Maurer succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash.
Charges are not forthcoming. There is no additional information to provide.
