Published on April 14, 2025
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Each year, the Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations department invites community members to join them in spreading awareness on Denim Day by wearing jeans as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. This year’s Denim Day Luncheon will be on Wednesday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden, 536 N. Eastern Boulevard.
The focus of this year's Denim Day aims to bring awareness to college campuses and provide resources for students who are or know of other students who may be victims or survivors of sexual violence.
The luncheon will feature three distinguished speakers, staff attorney with the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault Skye David, CEO of End Rape on Campus Kenyora Johnson and the keynote speaker, certified life, love and relationship coach and victim advocate for Legislative Reform Witlee Ethan.
“We chose to center this year’s Denim Day around college students because studies have shown sexual violence on campuses are often not reported,” Human Relations Director Yamile Nazar stated. “We want students to feel heard, empowered and know that there is never a reason, excuse, or invitation for sexual violence.”
This luncheon is a free event.
Those who are interested in attending the luncheon are encouraged to RSVP at FayettevilleNC.gov/HumanRelations.
